Otaru Canal is more than one photo spot. The classic view near Asakusa Bridge is important, but the area becomes more interesting when you also understand the stone warehouses, North Canal, gas lamps, and the walking route toward Sakaimachi Street.

Otaru Canal is more than one photo spot. The classic view near Asakusa Bridge is important, but the area becomes more interesting when you also understand the stone warehouses, North Canal, gas lamps, and the walking route toward Sakaimachi Street.

Most first-time visitors start near Asakusa Bridge. This is the easiest place to photograph the canal curve, stone warehouses, and lamps in one frame.

If you have only 30 to 45 minutes, stay around Asakusa Bridge and Chuo Bridge. If you have more time, walk toward Ryugu Bridge and the North Canal area.

The main promenade is the area most visitors imagine when they hear "Otaru Canal." It has the classic stone warehouse view and is close to canal cruise boarding points.
